A space to arrive exactly as you are

Welcome to my site. My name is Deb. I’m a somatic practitioner and therapeutic Yin Yoga facilitator and Yoga Therapist based in the Blue Mountains, NSW.

For such a long time I lived my life stuck on high alert. I worked crazy long hours, chased approval, and ran myself into chronic burnout—not once, but several times. Even on the yoga mat, my mindset was purely about striving. I pushed through fast-paced, high-intensity classes, unconsciously assuming that more effort was always the answer.

It took a series of major life events to break that pattern—losing a job I loved, going through the sudden loss of my dad, and navigating a brutal, seemingly endless transition into menopause.

After spending decades living on adrenaline, my nervous system was completely overwhelmed. I couldn't stop, I couldn't rest, and no amount of conventional self-care was helping me find calm. I realised my body couldn't just "bounce back," and there were no quick fixes.

I tried absolutely everything to find relief, but nothing worked until I attended a 3-day somatic yin and embodied meditation training. For the first time, I wasn’t just told to relax—the training actually gave me the physical, felt body experience of deep rest I so desperately needed, alongside the practical tools to understand why my system was reacting the way it was.

My story

A harmonium, Tibetan prayer bowl, yoga mat and pink bolster sit in a yoga studio.

Since then, it has been an ongoing negotiation with my habitual "Rushing Woman Syndrome" and cultural expectations. Stepping back from the constant urge to be productive and leaning into these gentle, grounding practices helped me step down from a state of constant overwhelm and learn how to truly rest.

I started Mountains Yoga Therapy to offer a simple, quiet space in the Blue Mountains for anyone who needs to drop the pace. I mostly work with women who are going through big life shifts—burnout, menopause, divorce, or empty nesting—and are just exhausted from carrying so much. We don't push, compete, or perform here. We use slow movement and somatic work to give your body the time and space it needs to restore itself.

My ethos

  • Gentleness takes real strength. Slowing down and listening to your body isn't the easy way out; it takes genuine courage.

  • No quick fixes. Real healing takes time, especially if your body has been stressed for years. There's no rush here.

  • No performing. You don't need to be flexible, quiet, or have it all together to come to a session.

  • You know your body best. I’m here to support you and offer tools, not to fix you or tell you how you should feel.

  • Keep it simple. No pretension or rigid rules—just fresh mountain air, quiet space, and honest practice.

My approach

  • Trauma/Growth-informed & Body-honouring: Practices are always tailored to your comfort and pace—never forced.

  • Nervous System focused: Rooted in somatic principles designed to shift your body out of "fight or flight" and into deep rest.

  • Grounded in nature: Inspired by the serene, steady energy of the Blue Mountains environment.
